Suess Justice, Idol Cops
I'll heap the clutter on you. That way, I don't have to deal with it. A brief rant this morning should clear the clutter. So Chief Judge Roberts comes down squarely in the Scalia/Thomas camp-o-dissent in his first opinion. Why am I surprised? What is so cool about hanging with Scalia? I don't get it. He's like the Star Bellied Sneech of the Supreme Court, with Judge Alito being the latest Sneech to come flying out of the Suess Machine, all starred-up and ready to fall in line. Alito thinks the “whole church/state separation thing” is overrated, and that women should get permission from their husbands before leaving the kitchen and God forbid should they even think about attending Princeton. They say he has a great legal mind. Yeah, so did Karl Marx, that doesn’t mean he belongs on the U.S. Supreme Court. So that's four with "stars upon thars". One more, and Barnes & Noble will have to move The Handmaid's Tale to the prophecy section.
And speaking of the demise of American culture, I watched American Idol last night. My favorite audition was the cop, in full uniform, who sang the line "I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot the deputy" about seven times in this bizarre falsetto. It was painful, yet intriguing and ultimately hilarious. He got the boot from Idol, but I think he could have a future as a performance artist. Let him stand in some corner at MOMA and do his thing, then watch those tickets sell. Come to think of it, someone should make a musical version of The Handmaid's Tale. I'm picturing A Clockwork Orange for the Dubyah era, with cops who sing while they hang abortionists and beat women who expose an ankle in public. Watch those tickets sell...
